House Speaker Mike Johnson on Thursday predicted Republicans would \u201cvery soon\u201d come to a \u201cpoint of decision\u201d on whether to impeach President Joe Biden. <\/p>\n

Johnson, the Louisiana Republican who was elected speaker last week, was addressing reporters on Capitol Hill in his first news conference as speaker. He said lawmakers are going through a constitutional process, echoing comments to Fox News\u2019s Sean Hannity that Republicans are following the impeachment inquiry into Biden because it\u2019s their \u201cconstitutional responsibility.\u201d <\/p>\n

In September, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced the impeachment inquiry into Biden, saying House Republicans had uncovered credible allegations about his conduct. <\/p>\n

A White House spokesman pushed back at the time by saying Republicans had not turned up any evidence of wrongdoing and called the inquiry \u201cextreme politics at its worst.\u201d <\/p>\n

Polling released last month showed that a narrow majority of Americans opposed the inquiry against Biden launched by House Republicans, which is investigating allegations of wrongdoing in connection with his son Hunter\u2019s business dealings. <\/p>\n

If the Republican-led House were to impeach Biden, charges would then be sent to the Democratic-controlled Senate for a trial. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
