\n For fervent fans of Starbucks, the holidays officially kick off this week with the arrival of its seasonal cups.\n <\/p>\n

\n Beginning Thursday, customers at its US locations will have their hot drinks served in one of four festive cups that are \u201cclad in holiday red and Starbucks greens and a mood-boosting magenta,\u201d according to a release.\n <\/p>\n

\n Noticeably different in this year\u2019s design is the magenta accent, which \u201clifts the traditional holiday colors and makes the red even look brighter,\u201d said Kristy Cameron, Starbucks\u2019 creative director.\n <\/p>\n

\n Each of the four cups has a unique name and theme. The \u201cpeppermint swirl\u201d design is based off its peppermint mocha with \u201cswirling waves of color that seem to move.\u201d The \u201cparty plaid\u201d design is a modernized take on a winter plaid scarf, and the \u201cribbon spool\u201d cup mimics gift wrap ribbons. Finally, the \u201cbauble wrap\u201d has ornament shapes that creates a \u201cbold, mod print, wrapped around the cup at an angle as a play on gift wrap,\u201d the company explained.\n <\/p>\n

\n Iced drink cups are also getting a new design that mixes \u201cplayful baubles\u201d and \u201csparkles\u201d with its white print on the plastic.\n <\/p>\n

\n The annual celebration has become a tradition for the coffee chain and drums up excitement among its loyal customers. Holiday sales are important for the coffee chain: Last year, revenue grew 14% compared to a similar time period the year before, according to the company.\n <\/p>\n

\n Starbucks\u00a0first rolled out seasonal cups in 1997. The company stirred up controversy in 2015 when it\u00a0removed \u201csymbols of the season,\u201d\u00a0i.e. reindeer and ornaments, and went with a simple two-toned red cup. Since then, it has added more festive flourishes, such as ornaments and mistletoe, to its cups.\n <\/p>\n

\n Last year marked the 25th anniversary of the tradition. Starbucks reports earnings Thursday, perhaps providing a glimpse of what it expects this year\u2019s holiday sales to be.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
