OpenAI said Friday that Sam Altman is no longer its chief executive, with the ChatGPT parent adding that said Altman had not been \u201cconsistently candid in his communications with the board.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI,\u201d the company said in a blog post. <\/p>\n

In a tweet Friday, Altman said he \u201cwill have more to say about what\u2019s next later.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati was appointed interim CEO, OpenAI said. A search is underway to identify a permanent successor.<\/p>\n

The company, which created ChatGPT, said Altman\u2019s departure follows \u201ca deliberative review process\u201d by the board. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are grateful for Sam\u2019s many contributions to the founding and growth of OpenAI. At the same time, we believe new leadership is necessary as we move forward,\u201d the board said in a statement. <\/p>\n

Murati is \u201cexceptionally qualified to step into the role of interim CEO. We have the utmost confidence in her ability to lead OpenAI during this transition period,\u201d the board said.<\/p>\n

\n an early investor in OpenAI that has been working to embed the artificial-intelligence company\u2019s technology into its products, fell 1.7% after the news of Altman\u2019s exit. The stock dropped a further 0.7% in the extended session Friday. <\/p>\n
